Coronavirus (COVID-19) Customer Update

Dear Customers,

I’d like to share my latest update as we continue to support you through the ongoing challenges and impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Our workforce, processes and operating model have adapted well to remote working, and our people have suffered from limited impact to their availability – either as a result of illness or caring responsibilities. On that basis, my future updates will only refer to these points should any issues of concern arise.

In my recent updates I’ve mentioned the four Urgent UNC Modifications that have been raised to help reduce the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak on Gas Allocation, Unidentified Gas (UIG) and Annual Quantity (AQ). As of Monday May 11th, those four Modifications are still with Ofgem for a final decision. Ofgem provided an update last week that they were unable to reach a decision in the original timescales but were still aiming to make a decision as soon as possible.

National Unidentified Gas continues to be negative on most days as the lockdown appears to have caused a significant drop in Industrial and Commercial usage, only partially offset by an increase in Domestic consumption, resulting in an over-allocation of gas to that Sector. However, weather variations can also have a significant impact and the recent sudden temperature swings are also likely to have caused noticeable fluctuations.
