Coronavirus (COVID-19) Customer Update

The latest update as we continue to support through the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Dear customers,

I’d like to share our latest update as we continue to support you through the ongoing challenges and impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

As government guidelines start to ease across the three nations, we encourage Shippers, Suppliers and consumers to work together to obtain and submit up to date meter readings for sites in their portfolio. Regular meter readings are essential for accurate Annual Quantities and timely meter point reconciliations. In particular Non-Daily Metered (NDM) sites that have had unusual consumption patterns due to the pandemic (whether higher or lower than normal) need to be reconciled to correct their settlement position.

Observed daily national Unidentified Gas (UIG) levels have been quite variable over the last few weeks compared to recent months. As the balancing figure each day in each LDZ, UIG is susceptible to any data anomalies and fluctuations. Over the last two weeks many areas have seen large swings in temperatures and the NDM estimation formula can struggle to keep pace, especially in Spring and Autumn, and this is likely to be a contributing factor. A sudden cold snap can cause positive UIG, and a sudden surge in temperatures can create negative UIG, if consumers react to the change very quickly. In both cases these are only temporary spikes: meter point reconciliation will correct for any inaccurate estimation and bring UIG levels back to a more normal level.
