Coronavirus (COVID-19) Customer Update

Dear Customers,

I’d like to share my latest update as we continue to support you through the ongoing challenges and impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Take-up of the approved COVID-19 Urgent Modifications appears to be low, and we are seeing far fewer Isolations at present than on a typical pre-lockdown day.  We are also seeing lower meter read volumes, despite the approval of Urgent Modification 0722 - Allow Users to submit Estimated Meter Reading during COVID-19.  This has resulted in a noticeable increase in the number of sites that are overdue for a meter reading.  We share figures with the Performance Assurance Committee periodically, and June’s update can be found here.  The statistics show that 57 billion kWh of Annual Quantity (AQ) is now overdue for a meter reading. This is over 11% of the total Local Distribution Zone (LDZ) AQ, and the equivalent of over four million typical domestic properties.

Urgent Modification 0726 - COVID-19 Liquidity Relief Scheme for Shippers, is now with Ofgem for consideration.

Daily Unidentified Gas (UIG) continues to be volatile. While national UIG returned to negative percentages after the late-May Bank Holiday week. This spiked briefly over the weekend of 13th June.  UIG remains very difficult to predict, as it is the balancing figure in each LDZ and is subject to many different influences.  If the take-up of the Urgent Modifications remains low and if many shops, offices, schools and businesses stay closed (or on reduced operations) we may continue to see negative UIG on many days, but also with high daily variations, due to other unforeseen factors.
