As part of Gemini re-platforming project, the Gemini system is going through an upgrade to replace ageing infrastructure and will also be moving to a private cloud based model. You can find out more about the re-platforming project here.
The impacts to external Gemini users
External connectivity testing - all Gemini system users are encouraged to take part in connectivity testing to the new Xoserve Data Centre from Monday 13th April to Friday 8th May. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org by Saturday 29th February if you wish to be involved.
Functionality - the Gemini functionality will remain the same as it is now. There will be an improvement to screen resolution which will adjust to match the device being used when logging in. This will remove the need to manually change the screen resolution.
Access to Gemini - the Citrix Receiver client being used by the industry to access Gemini is being upgraded from V6.5 to V7.15. It will be necessary for Gemini users to update their Citrix version or access Gemini via a web browser instead.
Extended outage - on Sunday 5th July the extended outage window is estimated to be between eight to twelve hours. Further details of the outage are below:
- The standard Gemini maintenance window will happen between 3:00am to 5:00am
- The extended outage will take place between 5:00am and 1:00pm
- In the event of a rollback, an additional outage will be required from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
Implementation planning is currently underway. Any actions required from users to complete their system related activities and processes prior to the implementation day will be communicated nearer the time.
